What is Geothermal Energy?

Geothermal energy (or geothermal heat) is an exhaustless energy source. The ground stores the energy from sun, wind and rain. Already in a depth of 2 meters the temperature is about 7° to 13° Celsius - the whole year long. This energy source is free of cost and available everywhere at any time.

Using vertical heat exchangers (vertical borehole), horizontal heat exchangers (horizontal and near to the surface), or energy geoexchange baskets, as well as with earth-bound concrete building elements the heat can be carried to the ground's surface. Mostly heat pumps come into operation for heating applications in different kinds of buildings. In summer the system can be used for cooling as an alternative to air conditioning.

Advantages of geothermal heat

Geothermal heat is emission free, available locally, and very attractive due to the double function (low temperature heating and cooling). Geothermal energy reduces the dependancy on expensive imports of fossil fuels.
